EPP MEP Ramona Mănescu: Whatever the causes think-tanks support, they should declare their sources of funding and their budgets

EPP MEP Ramona Mănescu says think-tanks ”choosing to bypass the transparency mechanism raise many questions”.

Starting from the European Parliament’s (EP) decision to ban Mosanto lobbying in the institution, the MEP said that any think tank, “whatever the cause it supports, should comply with the transparency rules and, especially to declare their sources of funding and their budgets.”

The political leaders in the EP banned the work of the Mosanto lobby group on April 26th. The measure was taken for the first time since the introduction of a new regulation in January 2018 that allows it. The measure was taken as a result of the group’s decision not to attend a parliamentary hearing scheduled on 11 October 2017 to discuss a leak of company documents revealed in a case in the US.

In order to pe appelied, the ban requires the approval of the College of Quaestors – a body of five MEPs responsible for administrative and financial matters directly affecting Members of Parliament.
