Context
The White Paper on the future of Europe was announced by President Juncker in his speech on the State of the Union of 14 September 2016, the initiative being welcomed by the EU-27 leaders at the Bratislava Summit on 16 September 2016. The paper analyses how Europe will change in the next ten years, from the impact of new technologies on society and jobs, on the concerns of globalisation and security concerns.
The document presents five scenarios, each of them outlining how the Union could look at the horizon of 2025, depending on the choices Europe will make. The scenarios are illustrative, do not exclude each other and are not exhaustive.
Since President Juncker’s speech on the State of the Union in 2016, the European Commission Representation has organised / participated in 12 debates and dialogues on the future of Europe and the five scenarios under discussion.
