MEP Cristian Buşoi (PNL, EPP) was appointed rapporteur for the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety for the Research and Innovation Framework Programme, Horizon Europe and for the EU Health Programme 2021-2027 (ESF+) within European Social Fund Plus.

President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker presented the EU budget proposal for the future Multi annual Financial Framework 2021-2027.
”I had the honor to be appointed rapporteur for the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) for both programs; and to improve these tools, we have already begun a consultation campaign of health stakeholders: authorities, doctors, deans and rectors of the Universities of Medicine and Pharmacy, representatives of the industry and non-governmental organizations, in order to identify the opportunities which our healthcare system could benefit from in the future European multiannual financial framework”, said MEP Cristian Buşoi.
With regard to the Horizon Europe Programme, Cristian Buşoi welcomes the Commission’s proposal to integrate Health into all European policies and to merge certain funds.
“My proposal from the ENVI Committee, is focused on increasing the budget of the Pillar II – Cluster ”Health” (from 7.7 billion Euros to 9.12 billion Euros, though the budget proposal is increased), addressing climate change and its effect on health, emphasizing the importance of cancer research as a priority of the program, and making a first mission to eradicate childhood cancer by 2030”, Cristian Buşoi explained.
Regarding the EU Health Programme 2021-2027, the Commission proposes € 413 million for Health. By comparison, the current Health Program has a budget of € 449.4 million and 23 priority areas, serving four major objectives: promoting a healthy lifestyle through ”Health in All Policies”, protecting EU citizens from serious cross-border health threats, improving and protecting the health of citizens at all ages, by developing innovative solutions to prevent, diagnose, monitor, treat and cure diseases, facilitating access for EU citizens to safe and high-quality healthcare.
The timetable for the adoption of this report is as follows: 10-11 October – presentation of the report in the ENVI Committee 17 October – deadline for tabling amendments, 12 November – adoption of the report in the ENVI Committee. ”Both EU health programs can bring funding opportunities for the Romanian Health System, the way we approach Health with a direct impact on everyday life and on the well-being of citizens, being decisive regarding their confidence in European Union” the MEP concluded.
