MEP Ramona Mănescu (EPP) was named rapporteur for Strategic Communication of the EPP Group in the European Parliament, an area representing the European Union main response to the Kremlin’s hybrid war and the jihadist propaganda promoted by Daesh terrorists.
The strategic communication at EU level was presented by the European Commission in June 2015, alongside three major objectives, the MEP explained on her website.
”Propaganda, manipulation, misinformation and the hybrid war are extremely dynamic. Also, the resources allocated to this direction by EU opponents are much higher than what was mobilised so far by both the EU and the member states, and the vulnerability of one member represents everyone’s vulnerability. That is why I believe that the European Parliament can and it should be involved in the process of responding to these new threats to the EU and do everything in its power to ensure our reaction is the one needed”, the MEP said.
”Fake news is believed to be true by more than 10% of the population of these countries, but in the case of Romania, the percentage rises to 37%, occupying a worrying spot in the region”, informs Ramona Mănescu.
